About–

–dave (me)
Short autobiography, ready fire aim: teaching, flying, sports, making things, taking pictures. I graduated from UW in ’10, lived in Central America, then moved to Alaska. I lived and taught on an island in the Bering Strait for a few years, then a village in the southwestern part of the state for a year. These days I live and work in Nome. Guatemala and Southern Mexico are beautiful–someday I may find myself there again. It’s likely that I’ll fly for a living someday. Here is what I think about the big picture in little words: faith, hope and love, and everything is in the details but don’t miss the forest ‘cuz of the trees. Death and Miracle, I’ve seen em both. If I were a fictional hero: equal parts Boyd Parham, Jim Casey, Samuel Hamilton, Maniac Magee, and a good dash of Doc Brown.

And there’s this girl, Shana. She is brilliant, witty, spunky and beautiful, has a soul of gold and eyes that dance. Love of my life, soulmate, my wife :).

the love of my life
the love of my life
yours truly, on a mountain
yours truly about one hour after one of the happiest moments of my life, when the examiner smiled and shook my hand and told me 'you are a pilot now.' the fella in this picture is forest, my instructor.

Thoughts and ideas and photos, sometimes rants or raves and an occasional story. Some of it’s 100% made by me, some of it’s not. I like to think it’s like lemonade, or limeade: zing, sugar, and a bit of pulp to pick out of your teeth.

Inspirations (a few of the many): Hemingway, Frost, Steinbeck, Cartier-Bresson, Teddy R., Aaron Huey, Faulkner, Jesus, Cash, Einstein, Dr. Reichgott, Cormac McCarthy, U2, Kim D., Jake D., Robert E., RaeEllen K., Norman Borlaug, thp.org, Randall Munroe, Roberta Murray, Steve McCurry, Dr. Byrne (Chris).

I love coffee. The porch is a great place to sit with a cup of coffee and watch the seasons. And front porches are better then back porches.
